The littlest finger packs a large punch!

If you were to rate the importance of each finger on a scale of one to five, the pinky would probably come up last in nearly everyones opinion. Unless of course, you have had the experience of losing the use of the pinky!

While the loss of use of any of your digits can set you back, it is amazing how much impact that little finger has. One woman found out the hard way when she took a spill jogging and landed on her pinky.

Check out the following story from the New York Times: Get Along Without a Pinky?

Notice a couple of things. First, the importance of that littlest of fingers. I was quite surprised myself at how much difficulty she encountered.

Second… look at what happens if you don’t jump right into finger rehab! After FIVE MONTHS she still couldn’t bend her finger, and it left her with an inability to hold things in her hand. She couldn’t even grab a vacuum cleaner, although for me, that would be a plus.

Scar tissue develops really quickly, and if you are not aggressive with therapy right away, you can easily get behind. This woman’s therapist did not get her moving the digit, which resulted in her needing more surgery 5 months later and starting the therapy process all over again. This time, she did it right!

Obviously, time is not for wasting! It’s bad enough if it takes longer to recover without therapy, but it’s worse if you have to undergo more surgery or lose the use of that finger forever.
