“We can’t put it back on!” These were the first words I recall after an bizarre incident with a faulty chaise lounge. In the process of sitting down, a flawed leg design took off the top half inch of my left index finger. For a professional magician, that’s about a half inch too much. Because about a quarter inch of bone had been crushed, they were unable to put the whole piece back on. So they made a graft, gave it a thirty percent chance of working, and sent me on my way with no idea how to do finger rehab.
This is where the story really begins. I knew I had my work cut out for me if I ever wanted to go back to my profession. The doctors gave me no information however, that would help me recover. So, I had to do it myself. This web site, finger rehab, is not only the story of my recovery, but a guide to the healing that will hopefully be helpful for you.
I assume you found me because you too have suffered some kind of finger injury. I also assume you were overwhelmed with trying to sort through all the info available on the net. This blog is for you. Whether you’ve had a finger fracture, a sprain, a partial amputation like me, or just nagging pain from tendon it is, I think I can help.
I hope you found this page soon after your injury. The faster you get to work, the faster you’ll heal. I was surprised at the dearth of useful information available on the internet. It took a lot of digging, consultations with physical therapists and a whole lot of trial and error to find effective therapies.
There is some good information out there if you dig, but there is also a ton of bad info. The problem is, you don’t know what’s good and what’s bad till you try. That is a waste of valuable healing time. What’s worse, you may set your healing back a few steps.
What I wanted to do on this blog is sort through as much as I could, and cut back on the time it would take you to find the useful information. Also, because I am into bodybuilding, I am fortunate enough to have a few friends that are physical therapists. They also helped me cut through the bull out there. Had I had to pay them for this info, it would have cost me hundreds of dollars.
I will also post some video reviews of products that are available to help your finger rehab. For the ones I have found to be of use, I will post an Amazon link so you can find them should you want to purchase one for yourself. I have chosen Amazon because in some instances they sell the items for less than they would cost if you went directly to the manufacturers website. Plus, they are a reputable company. They try to avoid carrying shoddy products from shady companies.
Well, that’s about it for now. I will be updating frequently, so check back often. If you have any questions, feel free to email me at patrick@fingerrehab.com.
Thanks
Patrick
